Impulse Recycling and LEGASI join hands to reduce Period Poverty in Nigeria
What is Period Poverty
According to @unitednations menstruation is intrinsically related to human dignity. Gender inequality, extreme poverty, humanitarian crises, and harmful traditions can all turn menstruation into a time of deprivation and stigma, which can undermine the enjoyment of fundamental human rights.
Period poverty is a lack of access to menstrual products, education, hygiene facilities, waste management, or a combination of these. Period poverty affects an estimated 500 million people worldwide in the following ways:
The right to health, education and decent work.
Historically, the inclusion of girls and women in education has helped challenge gender stereotypes and discrimination. This suggests that providing spaces for women to develop leadership skills, through education and healthy living is important. This can shape attitudes towards women's capabilities as leaders and decision-makers, especially in conventionally male-dominated cultures.
Impulse and LEGASI are proud to support women by providing access to education, skills training, and entrepreneurship.
