On the 28th March, 2022 LEGASI and sub-grantees from Kaduna on the Partnership for Peace (P4P) project paid an advocacy visit to the office of the Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs - Mr. Samuel Aruwan. We also had present sub-grantee representatives from Victor Abarshi, Village Debbo Care - VDCare and Carefronting. p>
The Commissioner and the visiting team discussed how religion, hate speech, tribal and ethnic sentiments has served as a negative tool in the unending conflict in Kaduna state and that "taking sides” regardless of the truth was one of the major causes of the continuous conflict. He stressed on the need to verify news and dig deeper for the true narrative of any story and called on civil society organisations to challenge the narrative and go back to the root to get factual reports. He commended the efforts of LEGASI in Kaduna and also on strategies to challenge the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in surrounding communities.
